Based on primary archival evidence, unpublished letters, and official decrees, it reveals his constant effort to preserve the monasteries and their historical autonomy, even against ecclesiastical authorities seeking full control.
The book illuminates the political and moral strategy of a leader who respected tradition, challenged strong interests, and attempted to build a state of justice and cohesion. His assassination is presented here not as a random act of violence, but as the dramatic result of deeper conflicts that marked the birth of the modern Greek state.
